Paxi Island

The smallest of the Ionian Islands , (4km. wide and 10 km. long) with ancient olive groves and grapevines, this exceedingly delightful island has managed to avoid the onslaught of mass tourism.

Gaios the main village and port of the island, with its charming houses is very picturesque. The islets of Panagia and Agios Nikolaos, with its Ventian castle and windmills are just outside the harbour. The Cultural Museum of Paxi has a collection of local history.

Lakka, a small pleasing village on the north coast, the Grotto of Ypapanti is a short distance away by boat. The tiny island of Antipaxi, are 2km south. Boats go from Lakka and Gaios daily there are a couple of good beaches. There is an abundance of grapevines, from which they make a superb wine.
