Shopping: The wide ranges of shops in Iraklio sell everything from high fashion to typical souvenirs.Good buys are at the street market on Odós 1866, jewellery, shoes, and a multitude of other wares. Recommended items to buy are Cretan made crafts such as, Leatherwork, pottery, textiles jewellery and icons. Other items worth buying are Cretan olive oil, wines, and herbs. The major tourist resorts have the usual range of souvenir shops that sell some locally made goods but also a large number of foreign made souvenirs. You can find some decent locally made crafts in the small villages dotted around the countryside. Always check where your souvenirs come from, you could end up with a Minoan vase made in Hong Kong .
